France's Ministry of Agriculture published the initial estimate for the 2020 winter wheat acreage today. It stands at 4.73 million hectares and is therefore 4.8% lower than the acreage for the 2019 harvest. The estimate for winter barley acreage is 1.25 million hectares (-4.3%).
Heavy rainfall prevented France's farmers from sowing and harvesting their maize fields. Many areas were not passable due to the wet conditions and planned areas could not be cultivated.
The estimated area under winter rapeseed is 1.05 million hectares, which would be 4.9% lower than in 2019 and 26.8% lower than the 5-year average.
