French common wheat sowing 66% complete

Common wheat sowing in France has developed well over the past week. By October 26, 66% of the expected common wheat area had been sown for next year's harvest, up from 45% the week before. That's a five-year average, said Farm Office FranceAgriMer on Friday.
Winter barley sowing was 80% complete, compared with 60% in the previous week and 65% in the previous year, and was in line with the multi-year average.
Heavy rains in late September and early October had raised concerns about a repeat of last year's poor seeding campaign as humid conditions resulted in a reduction in wheat acreage and contributed to this year's disappointing harvest.
After France lost around 750,000 hectares for this year's harvest, analysts and traders expect the common wheat area to rise to the level of around 5 million hectares that has been common in recent years.
The corn maize harvest was 88% complete by October 26, up from 77% the previous week and well before 60% the previous season.
Up to that date, the mean date of the corn harvest in France was nine days ahead of the five-year average and 17 days ahead of the previous year, according to the market analyst in his monthly report.
