As a result of the Corona crisis, the production of French fries in the Netherlands has halved. Suddenly, 1 million tons of processing raw material are said to be unsaleable there. Even the Avebe starch factories refuse to process the excess quantities because the market for potato starch and potato proteins would collapse. This week there should be another listing for free processing raw material. On Monday, the fries raw material was listed in the Netherlands at 1.5 to 4 € / dt. The farmers had achieved 5 € / dt last week for unpriced excess quantities.
The surplus of raw materials is now also influencing the market for table potatoes and for exports. In the best case, prices are still maintained domestically. However, exports are much more price-sensitive and exports to Eastern Europe are more lively than before, with oncoming prices.
