Torrential rains in France could limit the wheat yields in the country of the largest EU wheat producer but in other EU countries like Germany it looks this year after a good harvest.
In recent weeks, market observers had repeatedly revised their wheat crop estimates upwards. The Commission increased its estimate of the crop last to 145.1 million tons to 2 million tons the previous forecast.
The flooding in France wheat regions in the past week drove wheat prices on the Paris derivatives market on high prices for months. The combination of rain and Fusarium represent a great danger for the income. Now, the French consultancy ODA truncates its crop estimate um1 million tons compared to the previous month to 38.3 million tonnes. The quality issue is less critical than in 2014, as in the summer, no time was more for the recovery of stocks.
Now it depends on what the weather does in the coming weeks with the cereal stocks. More low-pressure systems and lot of rain are predicted.
In Germany, mainly the southern growing areas had been afflicted by too much rain. But the majority of crops is located in the North, where most exports are handled, and there the crop looks pretty good. Due to a slightly restricted area will be the wheat harvest in Germany with 25.57 million tons to 3.7% less than a year ago.
The Polish wheat harvest is estimated in 2016 now to 10.7 million tonnes to 11 million tonnes in the previous month.
In United Kingdom, fungal diseases in cereals also rapidly spread but there are effective remedies against it. The wheat harvest is similar to large estimated 16.4 million tons as in the previous year. Dry summer weather would be fine now for the grain.
