German grain harvest in 2020 below average again

Germany's farmers are struggling with extreme weather conditions and the grain harvest of all kinds in 2020 will fall below average for the third year in a row, said the German Farmers' Association (DBV) on Tuesday.
The grain harvest this year is 42.4 million tons, almost 5% below the average for the years 2015 to 2019, according to the DBV.
"This year's grain harvest is again below average overall, with extreme regional differences," said DBV President Joachim Rukwied. "2020 was the third year in many places that was marked by extreme weather conditions and threatened the existence of some farms."
Germany will harvest around 21.1 million tons of winter wheat in 2020, compared to 22.8 million tons in the previous year, according to the DBV.
The German winter rapeseed harvest in 2020 will increase from 2.8 million tons in 2019 to 3.3 million tons.
