With moderate losses yesterday, the wheat quotations in Chicago ended the second trading day of the week. Shortly before Christmas, the news is thin and the buying interest is weak. The downside potential has been limited by fears that frosty temperatures combined with a lack of protective snow cover in the US plains could damage sensitive winter wheat stocks. Institutional investors yesterday sold 2,000 lots of CBoT SRW wheat.
At Euronext in Paris, wheat quotations closed unevenly with weak sales in a narrow range. Many market participants have already said goodbye for this year. Europe's crop monitor MARS does not consider winter crops hard enough in large parts of Europe. So far, there was hardly any Auswinterungen. Because of the mild temperatures but the plants have developed little frost tolerance.
In Hamburg, the quotations for standard wheat with 12% protein for delivery in January at 3.50 euros on Paris March 18. For feed wheat in South Oldenburg, the offers are still higher, at 173.50 euros.
