The fear of a coronavirus pandemic is now also affecting the agricultural markets. This is also felt by farmers in this country, because the prices of the rapeseed futures market courses at Matif in Paris have dropped significantly over the past week. However, this paralyzes the already quiet market. New business hardly ever comes about. In any case, there is hardly any old goods left on the free market and the processors are well supplied until the new crop is available. There would be interest in buying the new crop, but farmers are hesitant to sell it because there is great uncertainty about the development of field stocks.
There is also little going on in the market for feed meal. Compound feed companies had stocked up well in the weeks before - as is usual with the seasons. But here too there was price pressure for rapeseed meal and soy meal. The courses for soybean meal were weaker due to the spread of the corona virus. However, the offer on the German market is not particularly large, since Argentina supplied less soybean meal because a large supplier there had been bankrupt for weeks and could no longer deliver.
The vegetable oil market also declined as economic weakness is expected due to the feared pandemic. The demand for rapeseed oil for the production of biodiesel has already decreased. Rapeseed oil prices do not react as violently as those of other vegetable oils, as a small rapeseed crop is expected again in Europe in the coming season; So buyers are again more dependent on imports.
