The influences on the prices of the next rapeseed harvest could not be more different. Farmers report frost damage and pest infestation. There is a great deal of uncertainty about the yields from the new harvest, which is why only a small amount of rapeseed is available from the next harvest. Older rapeseed has long been sold anyway. Although producer prices in Germany have recently stabilized, that is not enough for the providers.
The oil mills, on the other hand, have a completely different problem, because the demand for car fuels has plummeted and so does the demand for biodiesel. So less rapeseed is needed as a raw material for biodiesel. One is therefore reluctant to negotiate.
After a period of hamster purchases for feed meal, the demand for rapeseed meal has now dropped noticeably. The compound feed industry is therefore well supplied and can meet its delivery obligations. For May deliveries, prices have decreased. This also applies to soybean meal, especially since Argentina and Brazil can ensure that the processing of soybeans and the export of meal are maintained.
Rapeseed oil prices are under pressure because the food industry is less in demand during the corona crisis. In addition, buying interest from the biodiesel sector has been weaker for months. A drop of 70% is estimated. Slight support comes from soybean oil. Oil mills in the USA have reduced their processing.
