India allows import of 500,000 tons of GMO-free corn

The Indian Government has urged a Government-owned trading house to acquire additional 500,000 tonnes of non-genetically modified corn (GMO-free) on the world market to get a price increase, as well as a dead end earlier. Late last year India problems with the procurement of non-genetically modified maize on the world market and therefore apart, had to more corn import. Only a handful of countries in the world can offer corn in this specification; This includes also the Ukraine.
Yesterday, it was now known that the Indian Ministry of trade corn has allowed imports of 500,000 tonnes in addition GMO-free. The national range will be small until the next harvest in September, since two years limited the quantities of crop drought.
In India, corn is harvested twice a year. Winter maize is planted in October and harvested April through may, the sowing of summer maize has just begun and the crop is not available before the end of September. Large consumers, such as the poultry industry and starch producers of India fear until that time constraints, if there are no imports.
