India has abandoned the plan to double the import tax on wheat to 40 percent. This was shared by two government sources. For the third year in a row, wheat imports are expected to offset a decline in domestic production. Originally, India expected a record wheat crop of 100 million tons. Now the current forecast is 91-92 million tons. The import requirement would thus amount to 2-4 million tonnes (previous year: 1.5 million tonnes).
