India: Palm oil imports decline

India's palm oil exports in 2018/19 fell 6.4% year-on-year to 8.7 million tonnes. The devaluation of the rupee and the credit crunch hampered refineries' ability to buy abroad, a leading trading company said on Thursday.
India, the world's largest importer of edible oils, imports palm oil from Indonesia and Malaysia, soybean oil is mainly imported from Argentina and Brazil and sunflower oil from Ukraine.
Soybean oil imports in the country fell by 8.1% to 3.05 million tonnes as of 31 October. However, imports of sunflower oil increased by 16.4% to 2.5 million tonnes, according to the Solvent Extractors Association of India (SEA).
Total Indian imports of edible oil decreased by 3.7% to 14.5 million tonnes.
