According to a major Indian agricultural contractor, India has the potential for five million tonnes of wheat imports in the year 2016/17. The harvest volume will amount to 85 million tonnes according to his estimates.
Imports would be concluded, it would be the largest increase in wheat imports in the last ten years. The USDA estimated India's wheat imports last only a million tons and the crop to 88 million tons.
Since private companies can not cope with such a large imports, government agencies would have to help.
