The Ministry of Energy in Jakarta is planning a field test from April with a petrol that contains 40% biofuels.
The government in Indonesia, the world's largest palm oil producer, is already prescribing a B30 fuel for this year in order to reduce crude oil imports and increase the consumption of palm oil.
Now the first vehicles are soon to be refueled with a B40 fuel. So far, B30 is the highest proportion of bioenergy in a car fuel in a global comparison. The B40 program is set to become mandatory in Indonesia between 2021 and 2022.
FAME (palm's fatty acid methyl ester) is used in B40 and is blended with refined crude oil. So far, only selected refineries have mastered this production process.
