Iraq's trade minister today told the Baghdad cabinet that his country needs 1 million tons of wheat and 250,000 tons of rice for the state food aid program and to increase state reserves. One has to prepare for an increasing demand during the corona crisis.
For this he applied for the necessary financial means.
Last fall, the planning for imports was 750,000 tons of wheat. The country's supplies would then last until mid-June.
The country in the Middle East has an import requirement of 4.5 to 5 million tons of wheat a year. Imports typically come from Australia, Canada and the United States.
