German Agriculture Minister Julia Klöckner calls on the EU Commission to support dairy farmers. Sales of milk and dairy products declined sharply in the Corona crisis.
Klöckner suggests that the EU pay storage costs for milk powder. The French Minister of Agriculture had already made a similar proposal last week.
The higher sales of milk and dairy products in supermarkets cannot compensate for the drop in sales in restaurants and other canteen kitchens. In addition, exports to Asia in particular are declining, so further price pressure is imminent.
Other agricultural products such as beef, fruit and vegetables and wine are also under the watchful eye of the Ministry of Agriculture in Bonn and people are already considering how they can help farmers.
