While the situation on the table potato market has recently improved significantly, the stocks of fries raw materials in Western Europe are still alarmingly high. Most of the quantities are contractually bound. If the potatoes keep well in the warehouse, the factories will continue to process this raw material well into September. This means that earlier this year, fries raw materials will hardly receive any attention.
The fact that restaurants will be allowed to reopen in many parts of Germany from next week gives reason to hope that fries consumption will get going again soon. This had been the case on the British potato market for 10 days. Now, however, the farmers there are pushing for their domestic raw materials to be processed as a matter of priority, and not so many potato products to be imported from the EU mainland.
