The corn contracts on the Matif/Euronext were able to break away from the weak environment of wheat prices and ended trading in the green yesterday, but are hardly moving today. For the front month, 2.50 euros/ton went up to 247.50 euros/ton. Futures ended the day mixed on the Chicago Stock Exchange after an initially positive start. While the front month recorded marginal gains, the back contracts had to post losses. Heavier losses were prevented by recent ethanol production data. According to the EIA, an average of 1.05 million barrels per day was produced last week. In the previous week it was only 650,000 million barrels. The problems of Russia and Ukraine also provide additional support. Ukrainian corn is particularly important for the export business.
