McCain Foods plans fry factory in Russia

According to a report in the Russian daily Kommersant, a huge fry factory is to be built 180 km south of Moscow. The investor is the Canadian company McCain Foods. A factory building is already being planned in the industrial area of the Tula region. A local french fries production seems financially worthwhile because in this region of Russia cheap raw material can be used and high transport costs are avoided. McCain is the owner of the plant, according to an entry in the business register of the Russian Federation. In June, McCain Foods Holland BV and McCain Europa BV founded McCain Foods RUS LLC in the city of Uzlovaya, which is in the Tula district. The company wants to offer ready-made food products and processed potatoes.
Market participants confirmed that McCain is working on a large new French fries production facility to be located at SEZ Uzlovaya. The regional government offers investors long-term benefits. For example, duty-free imports and a VAT rate of 0% by 2026. In the first ten years, only 2% income tax will be charged. McCain Foods' European office is currently not responding to inquiries about this project.
