The United States is the world's largest exporter of corn and number two in soybean exports.
This would be the largest acreage of forage maize since 2016. Soybean cultivation rose by 12% compared to 2019 as difficult weather hampered sowing.
In the run-up to this first estimate of land use, it had been asked which crop would conquer the areas not cultivated in the previous year. Today it is clear that it is probably corn and soybeans. US wheat cultivation remains the smallest acreage since 1919.
As early as January, the USDA had estimated the US winter wheat acreage at the second-lowest level since cultivation data was recorded.
