The mood on the potato market is currently subdued. The market for table potatoes in particular has lost momentum. The market for processing raw materials, on the other hand, is not quite as bleak. Statisticians have published their estimates of potato stocks in recent weeks, which are significantly larger in Western and Central Europe than in the previous year and at a five-year level. One has to take into account that the demand for potato products worldwide has risen continuously by 5% pa in recent years. The factories responded by expanding their capacities. With a harvest of 4 million tons, Belgium has since had to source most of its 5 million tons of raw materials from neighboring countries. However, the prices for processed potatoes are currently somewhat under pressure, even in Holland, because demand from abroad is still calm.
