NEPG expects 15-20% less potatoes

While potato yields are 15 to 25% lower than in previous years, almost everywhere in Central and Western Europe, the result of a trial trial in the Dutch polder is catching up. A trading house had found a mean yield of 43.35 tonnes / hectare in KW 32 when testing on an Innovator area with irrigation in the Noordoostpolder, where the share of 50mm + rolls is almost 80%. Although the result is still 7 tonnes below the 5-year average, the starch content is 15% higher. The recent rains also benefit this area. But that will probably be an exception. According to NEPG estimates, drought and high temperatures in recent weeks are resulting in poor potato yields and quality is likely to be a major challenge. On average, the five Member States of the Union of Potato Growers show that yields across the EU are 15 to 25% below the long-term average.
