The representatives of the potato producers in North-Western Europe (NWEPG) expect in their Beritt (B, NL, F, GB, D) a small expansion of the potato area but slightly fewer potatoes than in the previous year. In France, Belgium and Germany, there will accordingly be an expansion of the acreage, in Holland, the acreage will fall by 2.5%. The cultivated area is given as 585,608 ha. Assuming yields in the five EU countries in the 5-year average, the yield would be 4% smaller than last year. This is enough to meet the growing needs of the industry, especially since many farmers have grown more high-yielding processing potatoes and instead limited the potato cultivation.
