Stockholders in Germany want more money for their small remaining stocks of rapeseed from the last harvest. Supply in this country is scarce and demand is high. Under these circumstances, rapeseed prices have risen again compared to the previous week. Support is also coming from higher palm oil prices, which have recently risen faster than rapeseed prices, fueling speculation that rapeseed prices will continue to rise.
Demand for oilseed meal is also brisk ahead of the holidays; there is already talk of supply bottlenecks for soybean meal. An oil mill in Argentina is said to be having financial problems, which is why the supply from there is decreasing. This could limit the supply of soybean meal in Germany in January, causing the price of rapeseed meal to rise to its highest level since June 2019. Most feed mixers had usually stocked up well beforehand; however, those who still need to buy before the festive season will probably pay more.
Rapeseed oil prices in Germany have risen due to firmer palm oil prices. The overall firm rapeseed market is also due to the small rapeseed harvest in the EU. Rapeseed and palm oil markets are narrowing their gap.
