Rich rains and cold weather have left the rapeseed on the fields very different in winter. Actually, there are hardly any outsourcing and analysts currently expect at least average yields. That's what Benoit Fayaud of Strategy Grains said today.
Plant development may be late, but with the prospect of warmer temperatures, field crops will now be able to develop well. In France, the first stocks will already bloom in the coming week. However, some stocks suffer from rapeseed, as the last autumn was very mild and the winter was wet. In spring, 60% more precipitation than usual occurred in France, leaving many fields too wet.
France's rapeseed harvest will be as good by the experts as it was in the previous year when 5.3 million tonnes came together.
In Germany, it is expected that the harvest will be better than last year. The winter brought at least little frost damage. In the north and east you can see the fields that it was too cold for a short time. But there will be no record income, you will have to come to terms with well average yields. The German Cooperative Association estimates rapeseed harvest 2018 in Germany at 4.67 millionTonnes, which is 9.5% more than last year but the five-year average is 5.2 million tonnes.
For Poland, it is estimated that the harvest will be 19% smaller than last year. The harvest is now estimated at 2.26 million tonnes as arable land has been restricted and the winter in the north and central Poland has been too cold. Auswinterungen have regionally 20 to 25% failure. In the south and southeast of Poland it looks much better.
Cold weather in the UK was a risk for the rapeseed areas there. It is well over a month behind the usual schedule and that should also affect the returns. The fields are too wet and this has hampered the application of mineral fertilizer. The plants are very sensitive. The acreage has been increased by 11% to 622,000 hectares for this crop. This ended the cultivation decline, which lasted five years.
