Palm oil from Malaysia

Malaysia is the world's second largest producer of palm oil with an estimated 21 million tonnes in 2018/19 (previous year: 20.5 million tonnes).
Exports from there are estimated at 17.9 million tons this season (previous year: 17.5 million tons).
The limiting factor of production is the worker. The technology is also not progressing as quickly as planned. New palm oil plantations are being wrested from the no longer profitable rubber production.
From 2021, the EU Parliament wants to import palm oil only from sustainable cultivation. 40% of Malaysian palm oil production is delivered to the EU and biodiesel is produced from it.
