Pig market

A slight relaxation can be felt on the German slaughter pig market after the gradual resumption of slaughter and cutting at Tönnies. The drop in the price of the association, which stopped on Wednesday, is also a positive sign. Marketing pigs ready for slaughter remains a challenge and the situation is tense. The slaughter in Rheda-Wiedenbrück is slowly starting up again. Slaughter is carried out in trial operation, which means that no more than 10,000 animals may initially be slaughtered, cut up and further processed. It is then decided to what extent the processing can be restarted. About 8,000 animals were slaughtered yesterday. As security deficiencies were identified in some work areas, but these could be remedied, the work had to be stopped in the meantime.
