Platts: 2017/18 EU sugar production increases by 10%

The sugar production in the EU will rise in the Saison2017/18 by 10%. This is the first harvest after the end of the EU sugar regime. The international community would remain a net importer in this estimation, said S & P Global Platts - analyst today, Friday.
France and the United Kingdom are available for 70% of the expected increase in production on a total volume of 18,32 million tons. The Zuckermarktsaison is all from October to September. The biggest sugar crop in the EU was retracted in 2014/15 and 19.4 million tons.
The 10% increase is based on the assumption of an average growth in normal weather conditions.
Because the next marketing period begins with low initial stocks and high world prices, States still up to 2.4 million tons of sugar will export some EU while other EU States import up to three million tonnes. The average EU sugar exports were around five million tonnes before the introduction of the quota system in 2006.
Exports from two to three million tons are a realistic order of magnitude in the near future, when trying to regain its former customers in North Africa, the middle and far East.
France is the largest producer of sugar in the EU. From there, 2017/18 exports are expected from 5.53 million tons in the marketing year. In the United Kingdom, the fourth largest sugar producers in the EU, the production should then rise by 40% if the acreage to rise again to the level by 2014/15.
