Platts: World sugar deficit continues to rise in 2016/17

The U.S. - price and information service for energy and (agricultural) commodities of Platts Kingsman today raised its forecast for global sugar deficit in the Vermarktungssaison 2016/17 (Oct. Sept.) to 7.67 million tons lift (previously: 6.38 million tons). The production volume in Thailand is expected to lower.
In the current season by 2015/16, the global sugar deficit is estimated at 5.48 million tonnes, to 7.67 million tonnes in the previous estimate. The production in Brazil would be better turned out than previously expected.
Brazil's sugar production in this year's crop is estimated to be 36.4 million tons of Platts and the amount of sugar cane for the production of sugar is specified with 638 million tons. Due to good prices, now more sugar instead of ethanol is produced. Previously, sugar production was estimated by the Government in Brazil to 35.1 million tonnes.
Despite all this Platts Kingsman assumes an increase of the sugar deficit in the coming season, because Thailand's crop losses more than offset the higher production in Brazil.
