Potato acreage in the UK shrank by 6.6%

Last week, there was an initial estimate for the year's potato acreage in the United Kingdom. According to the potato Council the figure was 113,100 hectares after evaluation of the information by 64% of producers. This means a decrease of 6.6% from the previous year. This strong decrease is very surprising and should, if the numbers not in hindsight still be corrected appreciably affect the potato market. In the last three years the area amounted to approximately 121,000 hectares. Considering the average harvest volume of recent years into the fact is crop yield at 5.05 million tons and thus 700,000 tons in the previous year. On the EEX weakened, the price for the April 16 contract today. A slight relaxation provide slightly cooler temperatures and rain by the weekend.
