The potato stocks in Belgium are as large as in the past five years. As of November 15, 3.26 million tons are to be stored in the farmers' barns. Since the beginning of this year's harvest, 980,000 tons have been used. The overall harvest was average. This is reported by the advisory associations Fiwap and PCA. Since potato processing grew by around 700,000 tons between 2014 and 2020, more potatoes will have to be imported from the Netherlands and northern France this year. The further development of the corona pandemic will determine whether this will happen. So far, the potato market has reacted calmly. In contrast, the other commodity and stock markets have been under pressure since last Friday because calls for contact restrictions are getting louder.
