With the first weeks of the New Year, negotiations on contract prices for the coming season have begun in Holland and elsewhere in Western and Central Europe. As production is becoming more expensive and storage costs in particular are rising due to the discontinuation of agents to promote ripening and inhibit germination, farmers in Holland want at least €15/dt for delivery in April 2021. The futures contract maturing in April 2021 is currently trading at €15.5/dt. A contract inventory is now slowly building up at this distant maturity.
