Repairs in Rouen

The French silo operator Senalia, which is also the place of delivery for wheat of the Paris futures exchange Matif, stops for four months the acceptance of wheat in its 250,000 tons Silo Grand Couronne in the port of Rouen. Rouen is the largest grain handling center in Europe.
Maintenance work is carried out in the plant. Only one of the delivery points for the settlement of futures contracts will remain open. The impact on grain exports remains limited for the time being.
Grain exports from French ports will remain clear this season, however, because the harvest in other parts of the European Union has recovered a very small grain crop and France will deliver more grain to other EU countries.
Senalia exported 900,000 tonnes of grain during the first two months of the marketing season 2018/19. The silo in which the maintenance work takes place accounts for half of the loading capacity of the company in Rouen. Work will begin on 1 September and will be completed on 16 January 2019.
Senalia wants to replace the previous loading facilities with those that can load Panamax ships from January 2019 onwards. It will invest 12 million euros. In addition, the port of Rouen will be expanded to include more moorings, to which larger vessels with more depth can dock.
Since July 1, Senalia also offers an envelope in the port of Lecureur with four loading decks.
