According to market observers, Romania's wheat production will be significantly smaller this year due to the continuing drought. However, the country has a robust surplus so that it is still able to export.
Romania is the second largest grain exporter in the European Union and, alongside France and Russia, a major supplier in the Middle East, with Egypt being the main customer.
Romania has harvested a record wheat harvest of around 10 million tons on 2.1 million hectares last year, and farmers and traders are now expecting a harvest of around 5 to 7.4 million tons.
