Russia benefits from Brazil's duty-free quota for wheat imports

Russia has already shipped two shipments of wheat to Brazil this month. In total it was 60,000 tons. Such deliveries are rather rare.
The shops are duty-free deliveries for which the Mercosur countries in South America, which include Brazil, Argentina and others, have granted import quotas.
Throughout 2019, Brazil imported 91,700 tons of Russian wheat. In 2018 it was only 26,200 tons. At least two more deliveries have been agreed for the coming weeks, it is said from dealer circles.
The Brazilian grain industry association Abitrigo said that Russia, Canada and the United States would benefit from the duty-free import quotas of over 750,000 tons established last year.
Brazil is expected to import a record 7.3 million tons of wheat this year. During the Corona period, the demand for wheat increased there. At the same time, Argentina, actually the most important wheat supplier for Brazil, is suffering from a drought, which threatens wheat deliveries from there.
In the first half of 2020, Argentina still delivered 3.12 million tons of wheat to Brazil. During this time, Brazil imported a total of 3.5 millionTons of wheat. The USA, far behind, only has 172,000 tons of wheat deliveries, followed by Paraguay with 97,000 tons and Uruguay with 80,000 tons.
