Russia's Minister of Agriculture Dmitry Patrushev expects a grain harvest in 2020 with a volume of only 120 million tons. This means that the forecast is lower than the previous forecast, which was 125.3 million tons. Dry weather conditions in the south of the country were cited as the reason for the expected decline. Russia and Ukraine, the largest exporters in the Black Sea region, suffered from dry weather in April. Precipitation in May averted some of the damage. Yield expectations are declining in the three main growing regions of Krasnodar, Stavropol and Rostov, Patrushev told President Putin in a meeting without making an estimate of the size of the harvest. In 2019, 121.2 million tons of grain were harvested in Russia. Russia has harvested more than 100 million tons of grain in each of the past six consecutive years, Putin said.
