Russia is pushing its wheat to the Algerian market

Russian wheat exporters want to register with the Algerian authorities as exporters to gain market access there in the future. The North African country is currently sourcing its wheat from France.
Russia is currently excluded from the tenders for Algeria's wheat purchases because too much broken grain has been delivered. Algeria is one of the largest wheat importers in the world after Egypt and Indonesia.
Various Russian grain exporters now want to register with the Algerian import inspectors and submit there samples for quality analysis, said a spokeswoman for the Russian plant health service Rosselkhoznadzor. Company registration should be completed by the end of 2018. Then you could send samples. It is hoped in Russia for a quick agreement from Algeria. However, there is no guarantee of acceptance of this proposal.
Algeria bought 1.75 million tonnes of wheat in France in the first half of the 2018/19 marketing period, which represents half of all wheat exports from our neighboring country. In order to be able to accept imports from Russia, Algeria would have to raise the maximum fraction of broken grains from 0.1 to approx. 0.5% in the import specifications.
If Russia's proposal were accepted, France would have a problem with its wheat sales because for several decades Algeria was the largest buyer. Russia's wheat is usually cheaper than French. The decision of the Algerian authorities is, however, primarily a political or an emotional one, and therefore only conditionally an economic one.
