Saudi Arabia allows private companies to import grain again

Saudi Arabia, the world's largest feed barley importer, intends to allow imports to resume after a two-year break. Since 2016, only the state-owned SAGO has been allowed to import feed barley.
The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia became one of the major importers of barley and wheat after it decided in 2008 to abandon cereal farming in the desert state.
Private importers must comply with the import standards of the state-owned grain importer SAGO. Traders expect that there will soon be import requests for feed barley from private companies.
