Soon more wheat exports from the EU

Rising prices at the top wheat exporter Russia has improved the chances for EU exports, even though there was a smaller harvest in this country, according to Strategy Grains.
In its monthly report, the analyst raises his estimate for EU wheat exports in the 2018/19 season by 0.6 million tonnes to 19.4 million tonnes. That is less than the 20.5 million tons in the previous year, but with a 10% smaller harvest in the EU, it is still quite respectable.
However, the export season started disappointingly as Russia dominated the export market from July to December. Only then could wheat from France and Germany become more attractive to the world market.
As grain harvests also suffered from drought in other regions of the world, exporters in the EU have good opportunities on the world market.
Lower supply and rising prices for wheat and barley have also ensured that more corn is used in the feed mixes. The EU is expected to record record quantities of 21 million tonnes of corn. The previous record was 17.9 million tons.
