A ship carrying 70,223 tons of sorghum from the United States in the direction of Asia has now apparently been diverted and is expected to arrive in Las Palmas on 12 May. Market participants believe that the shipment was originally intended for China. The reason for the diversion is probably the trade dispute between the United States and China. China accuses the US government of subsidizing sorghum exports. Sorghum is a substitute for maize and barley and is thus in competition with these products.
