Strategy of grains: EU acreage for wheat to harvest 2017 stable

The acreage for wheat to the harvest of 2017 is almost stable in the EU. That's the forecast of agricultural consulting firm strategy of grains.
The first report of the company for the harvest of 2017 forecast a slight drop in the grain cultivation area of 56.9 million hectares to 56.6 million hectares. The decline is mainly charged of durum wheat and spring barley. However, precise forecasts for the individual crops were not mentioned.
Soft wheat and winter barley to therefore be grown at the level of the previous year, while the acreage for rapeseed is expected to lower.
Some farmers have increased due to better prices for rapeseed in comparison to the prices of grain, the acreage for canola seed. The drought in the late summer has impeded however sowing. In the separate oilseeds report, which was released this week, grains strategy anticipates an increase in the acreage of rape seed of 6.5 million hectares on 6.7 million hectares.
The soft wheat and winter barley could lead as a result of the existing drought in some regions in the West of the European Union delays sowing.
For the durum wheat, a niche product used for the production of pasta, could drop the acreage by 6%.
In the forecast for spring barley grains strategy anticipates a reduction in the acreage of 1.5%. Summer barley is grown mainly for the production of malt.
The expectation is also stable at the low level of this year for grain maize.
