The agricultural consulting company strategy of grains has raised its forecast of the EU soft wheat production increased by 2 million metric tons (to the April forecast) in 2016/17. Currently pays the company a production volume of 144,7 million tons. The increase is justified with improved earnings prospects in Central and southern Europe. That would be a decrease of 3% compared to the record year of 2015/16.
The forecast of the EU barley production of 2016/17 increased strategy of grains to 1 million tons to 61.5 million tons. Mainly as a result of expanded production in Spain, Hungary, Bulgaria and Romania, as well as increased earnings forecasts. Thus the EU would be barley crop but still around 1% higher than the harvest by 2015/16.
By May 13, the winter crops in Central and South-Eastern Europe in good shape and yield expectations are high. In parts of France and the United Kingdom are certain uncertainties due to the very high incidence of parasite infestation. In Poland, Northern Germany and Scandinavia, the conditions were not optimal during sowing, in autumn and in winter.
Corn planting in the EU is now well advanced after the slow start due to wet and cold weather in France, Spain and Italy. The corn crop is estimated at 62.7 million tons. That would be 700,000 tonnes of less than in the April forecast. Acreage reductions mainly in France and Hungary are for this reason. To harvest 2015/16 (57.3 million tons), which was suffering from a heat wave and drought, but would be an increase of 9%. The year before that 75.7 million tons were harvested corn.
