The Dutch farmers' organization VTA takes stock of its members 3 times per marketing year. The third of the season actually takes place on April 15th, but since the market collapsed this year, this admission was preferred to April 1st.
On April 1, 44% of last year's potato harvest was used up. That is less than on April 15 last year; at that time it was 57%. Sand bottom ware was used up to 85-89%, Kleyboden potatoes only 30-35%.
74% of the harvest was sold, actually 85% in this survey. Farmers who participated in the survey delivered 22.6% less than the long-term average. The potato stock in Holland was 37% larger on April 1st than the 5-year average.
However, only 53% of the stored potatoes were sold - on average in previous years it was 65-70%. The stock was therefore twice as usual.
