Ukraine: 80% of the grain harvest completed

As of October 19, Ukraine had harvested 47.4 million tons of grain on an area of 12.3 million hectares. This corresponds to 80% of the total sowing area, reports the Ministry of Economics today. The wheat and barley harvests have already been completed. During the corn harvest, 11.1 million tons were harvested on an area of 2.4 million hectares. That is 44% of the total area.
The ministry expects the grain harvest to fall to 68 million tons in 2020 due to the drought in many regions of the country. In 2019, 75 million tons of grain were harvested.
So far 6.2 million hectares have been cultivated as part of winter grain sowing. That is 76% of the planned space. This includes 4.6 million hectares of winter wheat (76% of the expected total area) and 628,300 hectares of winter barley (66% of the expected total area).
Weather services report that weather conditions in Ukraine are the worst in 10 years and that only 10% -15% of arable land is suitable for winter grain sowing for the 2021 harvest.
