Ukraine: Agritel expects record corn yields

Ukraine will produce over 30 million tons of corn this year. This is reported by the French agricultural consultancy Agritel. A production volume of 30.28 million tonnes is expected. Compared to the previous year, when 24.67 million tonnes of maize were harvested, this is an increase of 23%. The 5-year average would be exceeded by 12%. Agritel's estimate of average yields is 6.69 tonnes per hectare (previous year: 5.51). The plants benefited from good weather conditions in the early growth phase. In addition, they were not exposed to excessive heat during flowering. In addition, considerable precipitation fell during the summer.
The large corn harvest in Ukraine and a record harvest in the United States could help alleviate tensions on the grain market following the severe drought and associated wheat yield losses.
Other harvesters are expecting a big Ukrainian corn crop. The US Department of Agriculture's forecast in the WASDE report of 10 August was 31 million tonnes. However, some analysts warned that the recent hot weather could limit returns.
Agritel's forecasts refer to the findings from the field inspections in the period from 20 to 24 August.
In the south of Ukraine, where the development of maize has progressed further, dry and warm weather is expected in the next two weeks.
