Ukraine: Analyst expects increase in acreage for wheat and barley

In Ukraine, the acreage for wheat and barley will increase for the next crop in 2019. This is what the Ukrainian agricultural consultancy UkrAgroConsult expects.
The analyst sees good reasons for an increase in wheat and barley cultivation. Barley export prices are the highest in over four and a half years, with wheat reaching export prices as high as they were last three and a half years ago. For corn, the outlook is therefore rather bearish.
For wheat, the estimated area is 6.5-6.6 million hectares (2017: 6.3 million hectares, 2018: 6.45 million hectares.) For the 2018 harvest, the acreage would be 1-1. 2%.
The cultivation area for barley could increase by 8-13%. UkrAgroConsult expects an acreage of 2.5 - 2.6 million hectares (2017: 2.53 million hectares, 2018: 2.3 million hectares).
The company is assessing the acreage of maize as decreasing. After 4.47 million hectares in 2017 and 4.6 million hectares in 2018, the acreage in 2019 could fall to 4.3 - 4.4 million hectares.
