Ukraine is considering restricting corn exports to 29.3 million tons in the 2019/20 season, the agricultural consultancy APK-Inform announced today.
The maize harvest in Ukraine largely exceeds domestic consumption, and the country has not restricted deliveries in past seasons.
"The maximum export volume is no more than 29.3 million tons," APK-Inform quoted a government proposal on the previously signed memorandum with dealers.
The ministry was not available for comment.
Ukraine harvested almost 36 million tons of maize in 2019 and APK-Inform predicted that exports would total 28.5 million tons in the 2019/20 season.
25.2 million tons of the goods have already been exported, 2.7 million tons more than at this time last season.
The consulting firm said on Friday that export prices for Ukrainian corn fell last week due to falling demand from exporters and an expected decline in biofuel production. The export bid prices for Ukrainian corn fell on 23April from $ 178 to $ 183 a tonne mid-last week to $ 172 to $ 176 a tonne FOB Black Sea, the consulting firm said.
Ukraine, one of the world's leading grain exporters, said this month that it was ready to ban wheat exports if sales exceeded the thresholds agreed with traders.
The supply chain disruptions caused by the new corona virus have caused neighboring Romania to ban grain exports to destinations outside the European Union.
Another neighbor, Russia, has also limited grain exports and sold grain from its stocks to increase supply to its mills and bakers.
