Ukraine's Ministry of Agriculture leaves the forecast of grain harvest 2018 of 60 million tons unchanged. The state of the winter cereal crops and the results of the summer cereal sowing are currently no reason for a different assumption, said the Minister of Agriculture Maksim Martynuik.
However, the State Meteorological Service predicts a decline in the winter wheat harvest in 2018 from 25.4 million tonnes (2017) to 24 million tonnes. Extreme spring temperatures will have a negative impact on yields. The winter barley harvest could thus fall from 3.03 million tons (2017) to 2.5 million tons. Winter wheat stands for 95% of total wheat production in Ukraine. The share of winter barley in total barley production in Ukraine is 30-40%.
