Corn contracts on the CBoT followed the bullish lead of the wheat markets and rose moderately. The most traded May recorded a profit of $23 US cents/bushel and thus costs the equivalent of EUR 297.06/ton. In the USA, maize sowing is not progressing as quickly as hoped. The weather in particular is preventing rapid progress. So far, four percent of the targeted area has been cultivated, which is well below the long-term average of six percent at the same time. According to the Ministry of Agriculture, the cultivated areas in the Ukraine are expected to increase to 14 million hectares (+600,000 hectares), which would mean that the total area would still be 17% below the previous year's level. The development was justified by the fact that large parts of the country are no longer under Russian occupation.
