The front month for corn on the Euronext/Matif in Paris closed yesterday at a closing price of 278 euros/t. The other contracts were also shown with a red sign. The report from Kyiv did not change the downward trend. The local Ministry of Agriculture announced yesterday that although half of the unharvested corn areas have now been harvested, an estimated 10 percent of the corn harvest is likely to have been lost. In December, around a third of the initial area had not yet been retracted. The ministry also said that as of Jan. 16, 13.8 million tons of corn had been exported. 6.1% more than in the previous year. The prices on the CBoT also ended trading yesterday with losses and also started pre-market today with a red sign. The USDA was able to announce the sale of 195,000 tons of last crop corn to Mexico yesterday. US ethanol production has recently picked up again, according to Energy Agency data, while ethanol inventories have declined.
