Ukraine: Grain exports so far 15.8% below the previous year

Ukraine's grain exports in the current marketing year 2020/21 (July to June) have so far decreased by 15.8% to 16.5 million tons, reports the Ministry of Economic Affairs and cites the lower corn exports as the reason. Traders sold 2.5 million tons of corn. At the same time last year it was 4.4 million tons. Wheat exports fell from 11 million tons to 10.6 million tons. Grain traders and the government have agreed that the volume of wheat available for export this season must not exceed 17.5 million tons in order to meet local demand and prevent export restrictions. The economy ministry said last Monday it had no plans to revise the quota despite the fast pace of wheat exports. In the 2020/21 season, retailers have used more than 57% of the quota so far. Ukraine, which accounts for around 16% of global grain exports, sold around 57 million tons of grain to foreign buyers in the 2019/20 season. The government said exports could fall to 47.4 million tons in 2020-21 due to a weaker harvest. The Ministry of Economic Affairs assumes that the grain harvest in 2020 will amount to around € 75 million due to bad weatherTons in 2019 will decrease to around 68 million tons.
